Contract review.

Got an exciting new job offer?
Did the new owners hand you a contract out of the blue?
Did your boss finally get around to drafting one… two years later?

These moments can feel routine, even flattering, but what you sign now can have serious consequences later. Employment contracts are drafted by employers (and their lawyers) to protect them. It’s your job to make sure someone is protecting you.

Your employment agreement governs your pay, benefits, termination rights, and sometimes even what you can do after you leave. It’s more than a formality — it’s a binding document that can decide whether you walk away with weeks or months of pay if you’re ever let go.

A contract that seems “standard” can quietly limit your rights. It may cap your severance at Employment Standards Act minimums (a fraction of what you’d get at common law), include restrictive non-compete or non-solicit clauses, or even allow your employer to change your duties or compensation without consent.

If you’ve been working without a written agreement and are suddenly asked to sign one, doing so could erase valuable entitlements you’ve already earned.

What you get

A contract review includes a detailed, plain-language analysis of your offer or agreement and practical recommendations on what to accept, question, or negotiate. Most reviews take under an hour and are billed at a flat rate of $750 + HST.

Meet in person in office or by Zoom — whatever is easiest.

You’ll leave the meeting knowing exactly what you’re agreeing to — and what to push back on before it’s too late.
